Fred VanVleet didn't have time to think about Raptors 905's 114-87 loss to the Grand Rapids Drive at the Air Canada Centre on Tuesday, Dec. 20.The point guard had to get ready to suit up for the Toronto Raptors later that night against the Brooklyn Nets at the same venue."I'm always ready to play," VanVleet said."It's part of the journey.

Raptors 905 87, Grand Rapids Drive 114 | Box ScoreAssignees: Fred VanVleet, Bruno Caboclo (905), None (Drive)Right before Christmas, a record number of children would have been sent home from the Air Canada Centre disappointed on Tuesday, were they not primarily invested in cheering any basket for either side. The D-league record 15,011 on hand got plenty of buckets, they just mostly came for the visiting Grand Rapids Drive rather than Raptors 905, as the Drive unleashed a storm from long-range from buzzer to buzzer on their way to a 114-87 victory. And, of course, it wouldn't be the holidays without a little Steezus, the reason for the steezon.Things started out more or less fine.

Raptors 905's franchise-high winning streak came to a halt at seven games as they fell 114-87 to the Grand Rapids Drive on Tuesday, Dec. 20 in a School Day game at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. In front of 15,011 fans, an NBA D-League record for a School Day game, Raptors 905 had a tough time containing the Drive as Grand Rapids made 24 out of 48 three-point attempts and scored 37 points in the second quarter alone."They have a couple of pros who have played on NBA teams, saw an NBA arena and I think their eyes kind of lit up a little bit," said Raptors 905 coach Jerry Stackhouse."We don't have anyone on our roster who has played meaningful minutes in the NBA yet and it showed a little bit.

For one day, at least, Raptors 905 players get a glimpse of life in the big timeA few weeks ago, the shot clock at Hershey Centre malfunctioned and Raptors 905 played the second half of a home game with a staff member screaming out the countdown.Just last week, another home game was delayed 20 minutes because of snow and traffic around Mississauga, Ont., which is still not as bad as what happened last year, when bad weather stranded the team overnight in Westchester, N.Y.Quirks and inconvenience can be part of the NBA Development League's charm, even though they can also humble the former NBA players, NCAA stars and international prospects who fill the rosters. They generally have to play in more remote locations, in smaller towns, with decidedly non-NBA modes of transportation. On Tuesday, though, the Raptors D-League team got a reprieve.
