PHOENIX — The young Phoenix Suns might be pushovers to some in the NBA.On Thursday night, they sought to be the aggressors. It worked in the second half, as the Suns showed grit on both offense and defense in beating the Toronto Raptors 99-91.Eric Bledsoe scored 22 points, Devin Booker had nine of his 19 in the fourth quarter, and the Suns held the Raptors to 40 percent shooting.

PHOENIX — As everyone knows if you play with fire, you eventually get burned and it took a visit to the Valley of the Sun for that lesson to finally hit home for the Raptors. The Raptors dropped a 99-91 decision to a Phoenix Suns team Thursday night that had only won nine of its first 32 games.Phoenix has plenty of young hardworking professionals on its roster but this is not a team to which the Raptors should be losing, not at this stage in either squad's development. Both teams were playing the second game of back-to-back situations and while the Raptors' circumstances — third game of a five-game trip that has already seen them log excessive miles heading to Utah, home for Christmas for a day and then right back out to Portland to continue the trip — were perhaps more onerous, this was a game coach Dwane Casey has seen coming for some time for his team.

PHOENIX — It may have been the single greatest argument for the abolishment of back-to-back games in the NBA.It certainly ranks among the Toronto Raptors' worst outings of the 2016-17 season.Toronto, coming off a hard-fought 121-111 loss against the Golden State Warriors and the Phoenix Suns an equally gutty 119-98 loss in San Antonio the night before looked beaten down and bereft of energy in a Raptors' 99-91 loss last night to the now 10-23 Suns. For large stretches it was basketball at its worst.
