Just because Masai Ujiri's annual Giants of Africa camps tipped off in Senegal this week it doesn't mean the Toronto Raptors President/GM isn't still busy working on filling out his roster ahead of the 2016-17 season.On Thursday the Raptors signed a pair of free agents, guard Drew Crawford and centre Yanick Moreira.You may recall Crawford, son of longtime NBA referee Danny Crawford, from his performance with the Raptors at the NBA Summer League last month.The 25 year-old averaged eight points in 18 minutes per game and showed off a nice jumper and ability to get to the basket.

The Toronto Raptors are considered very strong contenders against the Cleveland Cavaliers of LeBron James, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving in the Eastern Conference.With Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan carrying the NBA team in the 2016 playoffs, a lot of fans compared their performance to the then teammates Oklahoma City Thunder Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook.However, the Toronto Raptors still fell short in taking the crown from the Cleveland Cavaliers.Hence, a Blake Griffin trade is said to be on its way to Toronto soon.

Veteran sports broadcaster John Saunders died yesterday at the age of 61.The news was announced by Saunders's long-time employer ESPN.To most ESPN viewers, Saunders was best known for play-by-play basketball commentary: his recognizable baritone was a constant in the lives of hoops junkies over the past two decades, whether they were watching the NBA, college, or international basketball.But for Canadians of a certain vintage, Saunders — born in Ajax, Ontario — will forever be remembered as the original voice of the Toronto Raptors.

Toronto Raptors in advanced talks with president Masai Ujiri on contract extension
The Toronto Raptors and team president Masai Ujiri are in advanced negotiations on a contract extension, according to league sources.Sources said the Raptors and Ujiri are nearing agreement on a lucrative new deal that will keep the 46-year-old in Canada for the foreseeable future, even though he still has nearly two years left on the original five-year, $15 million pact he signed with Toronto in May 2013.The Nigeria native, who's currently in Africa, has assembled a team that reached the Eastern Conference finals last season and has cornerstone guards Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan -- as well as coach Dwane Casey -- all signed to long-term deals.DeRozan (five years, $145 million) and Casey (four years, $18 million) landed their new contracts earlier this offseason.
